While vacationing in Oaxaca City last December of 2019, we visited the workshop of Jacobo Mendoza, a master weaver in Teotitlan del Valle. We were very impressed both by the quality of his work and his dedication to traditional dyes and weaving techniques. The tapestries and rugs we saw in Jacobo’s workshop were superb pieces with bright colors and traditional designs.
After returning home to Houston, we contacted Jacobo and placed an order for a rug with the exact measurements for our breakfast room. Jacobo worked out the details with us and used one of the wider looms in his workshop to weave our rug to our exact specifications: 8 feet 2 inches wide by 10 feet 2 inches long.
